There is no such thing as alternative medicine or complementary medicine. There is medicine that works, placebo and plain old mumbo jumbo. There must be a push for non-conventional therapies to be scientifically assessed or they should not be allowed into the market place. We would not accept a toy maker being allowed to sell a toy that has not passed a certain safety standard why should we accept a lesser standard in health. The fact that people are using these therapies is not in itself reason to believe they work or not.

And RCTs gave us the "safety" of HRT, Vioxx, proton-pump inhibitors, Stilnox, thioridazine, Lipobay and all of those drugs that cause drug-induced lupus et al. One safety standard for all? Can't wait for it.

why don't you shut up David Humphries, you blinkered moron. thats what happens when you are afraid of change or learning something new. your like the inquisition are you also afraid of flying, landing on the moon and discovery?? or are you just upset that 90% of "western" medicine is based on "natural" medicine and that pharmaceutical companies and doctors cant "patent" it and make a quick buck out of "alternative' or "natural" medicine because everyone can have access to it freely?? your a loser go shove your stupid head up your own ass cause thats where you find all your great ideas and comments you shit talking moron. P.S dont take vitamins, get a massage, see a physiotherapist get a chiropractic adjustment, see a nutritionist, drink ANY herbal tea, sleep, eat drink water, breath, exercise, think positive, see a psychologist, or do anything that is NATURAL or ALTERNATIVE in your life EVER. Stupid Idiot.

Well, thanks for that enlightened and thoughtful argument in favour of "alternate medicine", Kate. Most convincing, but of what, that's the question.I take it you would be scathing of any report from the Journal of the Australian Medical Association? They would be a bunch of one-eyed biased bigoted medicos out to kill us all, yes?So perhaps you should actually at the source of this particular article - Journal of Complementary Medicine. So what exactly says they have no bias in their reporting too...apart from the fact you just happen to really like them because they agree with you?
