GPs in Victoria will be the first to trial the government’s controversial fundholding diabetes scheme as part of a $2 million pilot starting later this year.
Practices in Barwon and North Melbourne will be receiving a package of funding through Medicare Locals for each voluntarily enrolled diabetes patient, the State government has announced (link).
The announcement comes after the Federal government ditched its plans to roll out the scheme nationally following concerns from doctors, particularly the AMA, over the use of fundholding instead of the current fee-for-service items.
As well as the lump payments, the two-year program will also involve an education and training program for consumers and healthcare professionals, the appointment of a care facilitator...
