Young people with mental health problems are attracted to the government’s flagship headspace centres because they are more user friendly to visit than a GP, preliminary findings suggest.
A review of the young people presenting to two headspace centres in Sydney found that young males appeared to be more willing to use the service and many already had high rates of mental health disability.
The headspace centres also had remarkably high rates of self referral and referral by family and friends, according to findings (link) in the MJA.
