Live cockroach found in woman’s skull

Doctors in India have successfully removed a live cockroach from a woman’s skull.

The 42-year-old  domestic worker from  Injambakkam was asleep when she felt an insect crawling inside her nostril, according to a report published in The New Indian Express.

“I could not explain the feeling but I was sure it was some insect,” she said. “There was a tingling, crawling sensation. Whenever it moved, it gave me a burning sensation in my eyes.”

After a night of intense pain, she went to the hospital where a nasal endoscopy found the cockroach on the skull between her eyes.

“This is the first such case I have seen in my three decades of practice,” Dr M N Shankar, head of ENT, told the Express.

“If left inside, it would have died before long and the patient would have developed an infection which would have spread to the brain,” he said.
